Campari gets drunk on Jamaican rum: takeover bid on Lascelles deMercado closed successfully

The Italian company has made purchases equal to 98,6% of the ordinary share capital and 99,5% of the preferred share capital – it will shortly rise to 100% – Campari will withdraw the shares of the acquired company from trading on the Jamaican stock exchange.

Campari closed the tender offer launched on all the shares of Lascelles deMercado, a Jamaican rum producer, with purchases equal to 98,6% of the ordinary share capital and 99,5% of the preferred one.

This was announced in a note from the company, specifying that the value of the offer - completed through the subsidiary Campari Espana - was 409 million dollars (equal to approximately 316 million euros).

Having passed the 90% threshold, the Italian group intends to exercise its envisaged right to acquire all remaining Lascelles shares. As announced, Campari will delist the acquired company's shares from trading on the Jamaican stock exchange.

The takeover bid was launched on 3 September last and closed yesterday, a deadline extended from the initial 30 November.

By mid-morning, Campari shares gained 0,3% on Piazza Affari.
