Chamber, confidence in the Gentiloni government

There were 368 yeses in Montecitorio, against 105 nos (there were 473 voters, most of the oppositions left the Chamber before the vote) – Tomorrow, Wednesday 14 December, the new executive will undergo a vote of confidence in the Senate – VIDEO.

The Gentiloni Government, after having sworn in yesterday evening at the Quirinale, earned the trust of the Chamber of Deputies: the yeses in Montecitorio were 368, against the 105 nos (there were 473 voters, most of the opposition left the Chamber before the vote). Tomorrow the new executive will undergo a vote of confidence in the Senate.

In the morning the new premier had held his programmatic speech in front of the parliamentarians, urging Parliament to a political confrontation: "The Government will not be the protagonist: you, ladies and gentlemen, are responsible to promote initiatives and carry them forward. The government will urge this action because our system urgently needs certain and fully implementable electoral rules,” Gentiloni said.

“I leave the debate on the duration of our government to the dialectic between the political forces – continued the new Prime Minister – As far as we are concerned, the Constitution is valid: the government lasts as long as it has the confidence of Parliament. The consultations highlighted the impossibility of a general convergence on this responsible government. We have taken note of it, we are proceeding within the framework of the previous majority and we hope that wider convergences can arrive on individual measures.
