House and Senate, a useless first day

House and Senate, a useless first day

Black smoke in sequence between the House and the Senate. As expected, the XNUMXth legislature in republican history got off to a bad start, with complete political deadlock. The new deputies and senators failed to complete their first task: the election of the successors of Gianfranco Fini and Renato Schifani as president of the two assemblies.

Pd and Pdl voted blank ballot, while members of the Movimento 5 Stelle voted in favor of their candidates: Roberto Fico in Montecitorio and Luis Alberto Orellana in Palazzo Madama. Result: nothing done.

The day began this morning in the Senate, where 246 blank ballots out of a total of 313 were stripped in the first ballot, 4 void. No one came remotely close to the absolute majority required for election: Orellana obtained 52 votes, Sibilia 4, Mussolini 3, Compagna 2, Colombo and Scilipoti 1.

Not even the second ballot crowned anyone. The blank ballots were more than the absolute majority, and the only change with respect to the first vote was a dozen ballots in favor of Ignazio Marino.

The same script went on stage with the first vote in Montecitorio: 459 blank ballots, 24 void, 108 votes for Fico and 6 for Marantelli. Second round in the afternoon: 450 blank ballots, 110 votes for Fico. Still nothing.

Meanwhile, an opening to the Grillini Movement has come from Nichi Vendola: "Our hope is that we can gradually determine a choice in favor of a candidate belonging to the 5-star Movement, which is the first party in the Chamber - said the leader by Sel-. Obviously we are part of a coalition, we try not to plant a flag but to contribute to the release of the paralysis that exists in Parliament”.
