Chamber: annuities canceled for 10 former deputies

The Chamber has canceled the life annuities of 10 former deputies. This was decided by the president's office in which all parties are represented; Forza Italia and Ncd abstained. They will no longer receive the annuity Massimo Abbatangelo (former Msi deputy), Giancarlo Cito (former mayor of Taranto, former MSI, today in Fi), Robinio Costi (formerly PSDI); Massimo DeCarolis (ex DC); Francis DeLorenzo (former Minister of Health, ex Pli); Julius DiDonato (Former Psi); Pietro Longo (former PSDI); Raffaele Mastrantuono (Former Psi); Gianstefano Milani (formerly Psi) e Gianmario Pellizzari (former DC). Further investigations are underway on an eleventh former deputy.

The Chamber had decided to end the annuity for former deputies definitively sentenced to more than two years and for particularly serious crimes, as did the Senate on 7 May. The names of the convicted former parliamentarians were forwarded to the Chambers by the Department of Justice's Legal Affairs.

Il annuity is currently received by 1.548 deputies, of which 346 are over 80 years of age, upon completion of which the registration in the criminal record is eliminated. An investigation was not possible on the latter, which therefore concerned only 1.202 former deputies. However, the Speaker of the Chamber asked the Cassation to search for possible convictions in its archives relating to these former 'over 80' ladies.
