Chamber, 100 deputies against Equitalia: "Excess, real harassment"

A motion presented in Montecitorio: the government urged to intervene with measures that avoid the payment of exorbitant sums and to explain in the courtroom what it intends to do against the inconvenience of taxpayers

Chamber, 100 deputies against Equitalia: "Excess, real harassment"

From the Chamber, a finger pointed at the "excesses" of Equitalia. More than 100 deputies have signed a motion which calls for a government commitment against what is defined as "real harassment" against citizens.

"The fight against evasion is necessary", is the premise. However "the fight against tax evasion cannot become an alibi to embarrass taxpayers", argues the motion which sees among the various signatures those of Ronchi, Maroni, Meloni, Urso, Cazzola, Paniz and Stefania Craxi.

"It is necessary to find a solution to ensure that taxpayers can meet their debts to Equitalia in a balanced way", underline the deputies. The motion, therefore, commits the government "to carry out a check on the current legislation in order to prevent excessively penalizing instruments, such as the foreclosure of the first home and the 'fiscal jaws', from being used as real instruments of harassment of citizens" .

We also ask for the government's commitment "to take measures aimed at preventing citizens from being forced to pay unfair and exorbitant sums due to penalties, premiums and interest, beyond what is due". The government should also "evaluate the possibility of a measure that is more humane towards those who pay off their debts in a single solution or who pay them in installments by drastically reducing interest and premiums".

In any case, the signatories of the motion urge the executive to appear "urgently in the courtroom to explain what it intends to do to meet the growing hardships of thousands of citizens penalized by what is considered a real harassment".
