California and wine, Napa Valley in smoke

About 2/3 of the vineyards in the region north of San Francisco are on fire. The economic impact of the fire on business activities will only be calculated when the flames have ceased. According to Coldiretti, wine production in the USA developed from the vineyards of Napa Valley.

The Californian areas of Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino, where the best Californian wine comes from - which has been traveling at levels of world excellence for decades - have been on fire since Monday night. As if, to be clear, the Chianti hills were invaded by a wave of fire.

In fact, a huge fire has hit California, precisely the area north of San Francisco, causing so far 10 deaths and the destruction of a large part of the vineyards in the area. About 20 thousand people were evacuated. It is a real catastrophe as regards the business activities of the place.

From the vineyards of Napa Valley in California, the production of wine in the United States developed, reaching almost 10% of the world total thanks to a dizzying growth of crops that allowed the USA to become the fourth largest wine producer globally after Italy, France and Spain with a quantity of 24 million hectoliters.

According to Coldiretti, the first vineyards in Napa Valley were planted in the 60s and since then there has been uninterrupted growth in production and demand, so much so that the United States has become the world's leading consumer of wine with 31,8 million of hectoliters which are only partially satisfied by imports.

Napa Valley - concludes Coldiretti - is the most famous wine-growing area in California and certainly also in all the United States of America, so much so that it is considered as a synonym of American wine with a production based above all on "international" vines and advanced technologies .
