THE EXHIBITIONS:

ROME
louise nevelson

Through the display of over 70 works, of which the basic nucleus comes from the Marconi Foundation, the exhibition tells in an emblematic way the artistic activity of Louise Nevelson, considered one of the most illustrious artists of the Second World War.

The exhibition itinerary brings together drawings and terracottas from the XNUMXs, the period in which her artistic career began, and the marvelous sculptures of the following decades, with the aim of underlining how Nevelson's work has significantly marked the evolution of American art of the XNUMXth century.  His artistic production, in fact, ranks among those experiences which, after the historical avant-gardes of the twentieth century, in particular Futurism and the Dada movement, have made use of fragments and objects recovered from the everyday context with compositional intentions.

SIENA

Caravaggio's Saint John the Baptist

Exhibited in the Crypt under the Cathedral of Siena, a masterpiece of Italian art, the San Giovanni Battista by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, from the Pinacoteca Capitolina in Rome.
The painting has been in the Campidoglio since 1750 and is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating works of the great painter, who in this canvas brilliantly expresses his reflections on pictorial naturalism and religious sentiment. All critics today agree on the reference to the artist of this painting, thanks also to a meticulous series of technical investigations which have demonstrated the authenticity of the work. Caravaggio painted St. John the Baptist in 1602 probably for Ciriaco Mattei, one of the most prominent figures in Roman society of the time; the subject of the painting is a clear reference to the name of Ciriaco's son, Giovanni Battista. Therefore intended for the private rooms of Palazzo Mattei and not for a place of worship, the San Giovanni Battista is a profound synthesis of Caravaggio's meditations on sacred painting. For this reason the painter uses, as a compositional model for the Baptist, one of the beautiful Nudes frescoed by Michelangelo in the vault of the Sistine Chapel, the most striking and complex work of the Italian Renaissance.

On display, you can admire some of his most famous masterpieces, including the "Kiss of the Hotel de Ville”, which has become the most recognizable icon of his art.

TURIN
Robert Capucci. The quest for royalty

A unique opportunity to marvel at 50 dresses created by the great stylist Roberto Capucci specifically for queens, stars and ladies of the "big world" from the XNUMXs to today.

No one like Capucci has sought the representation of "royalty" by modeling garments that are authentic "fabric sculptures", presented in the exhibition together with sketches, photos, films and stories about their historical moments and the celebrities who have worn them.

To appear at the height of splendor and solemnity, the princesses Borghese, Odescalchi and Colonna, the actresses Valentina Cortese and Silvana Mangano, the opera singer Raina Kabajvanska, international stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Esther Williams and the Nobel prize for medicine Rita Levi Montalcini: their clothes represent a fascinating journey through the second half of the twentieth century on the theme of fashion and luxury, reconstructing the creative itinerary of one of the masters of world fashion.

THEATER:

MILAN
La Scala Theater Academy Ballet School – directed by Frédéric Olivieri
The appointment with the institutional show takes on a special flavor as it begins the celebrations for the bicentenary of the foundation of the Ballet School. Two hundred years of history for an institution capable of making the dreams of hundreds of young dancers come true by opening the doors to dance at the highest level.
Three essential moments: the choreographic presentation, conceived by Frédéric Olivieri, which involves all the students; Paquita by Marius Petipa on music by Ludwig Minkus, a great romantic ballet in which the thwarted love between the gypsy Paquita and the officer Lucien d'Hervilly reaches a happy ending; Gaîté parisienne suite, created by Maurice Béjart in 1978 brings to life the sparkling atmospheres of Paris in the second half of the 800th century. Strongly autobiographical, the ballet tells the story of a young man who, having moved to Paris to study dance, finds a very strict teacher from whom he runs away seeking solace in a world of fantasy.

Family games
Escaping from the places where one was born and raised, escaping from an identity one has not chosen and with which one is forced to confront: this is one of the favorite themes of the Serbian writer Biljana Srbljanovic, author of Family Games. His pièce takes place in the degraded suburbs of any European city and tells of four children who play at being adults; and it is precisely by adhering to the wickedness of the world around them that these children come to commit extreme acts, an expression of the brutality inherent in every man. Some of them play, wearing clothes that are too loose and using gestures and words far from childish language: they are violent, sometimes disturbing.
