Calenda raises the alarm: "Ilva is a national emergency"

The Minister of Economic Development contests the Emiliano Governor's appeal to the TAR which risks blowing up the entire relaunch operation of the largest Italian steel industry and draws the attention of the entire ruling class to the future of the Taranto plant.

The Minister of Development, Carlo Calenda, raises the alarm, from the columns of the Corriere della Sera, on the fate of Ilva, the largest Italian steel industry put at risk by the unfortunate appeal to the Tar by the governor of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, on environmental remediation plan.

After the outcry of the unions and in particular of the secretary of the metalworkers of the Cisl, Marco Bentivogli, today it is Minister Calenda who makes his voice heard and calls the attention of the whole country against "the deafening silence of the ruling class" all, which seems to underestimate the effects of the propaganda and adventurous move of the Apulian governor which risks inducing the Indians of Arcelor Mittal to give up the plan to relaunch the Ilva of Taranto.

For the Minister of Economic Development, Emiliano's appeal on the environmental remediation plan is "unacceptable", on which the feasibility of the whole complex operation to relaunch Ilva depends, which envisages investments by Arcelor Mittal for 1,2 billion euros.

For Calenda "Ilva has already gone bankrupt and, if it closes, we will go and buy steel in Germany, losing a point of GDP". But, to avoid the worst, he urges "a law to avoid vetoes by local authorities".
