Carlo calenda and Matteo Renzi are working to find an agreement that will make possible a unified list for the next political elections on 25 September and the construction of the Third pole reformist. On the programmes, the agreement is already in things because on all the fundamental political questions – obviously starting from the international, pro-European and Atlanticist position – the two leaders think in the same way. The best candidates remain to be defined, as well as the logo and governance of the third pole being established, which will also include the former mayor of Parma Federico Pizzarotti.
“Our goal is to bring Mario back Worryia Palazzo Chigi” declared the leader of Action, Calenda. "If we unite and make the third pole in the elections we will make a bang" echoed the former prime minister and leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renzi.
CALENDA AND RENZI NEGOTIATE ON APPLICATIONS: 60% TO ACTION AND 40% TO ITALIA VIVA
If the single list is born from the agreement, Calenda will not need to collect signatures to present his political formation at the polls. But it's about the candidacies. The idea being worked on is to attribute 60% of the candidacies in single-member constituencies to Action and 40% to Italia Viva, but the problem is identifying the candidates that are most likely to attract votes. Then there is the question of the logo, which Calenda would like to contain his name but the discussion is still open on this.
Calenda and Renzi realize that they are leaders with a strong impact but also divisive and therefore the idea that circulated last night at the table of the sherpas of the two parties is to take a step back and present two female front runners: Mara Carfagna for Action and Elena Bonetti for Italia Viva. Two ministers and two new faces would be good news and a strong response to Giorgio Meloni's candidacy on the right-wing side.
CALENDA-RENZI: MEETING OF THE TWO LEADERS EXPECTED TODAY
Of course, as always in politics, an agreement can't be taken for granted until the very end because the devil is always hiding in the details, but up until yesterday evening the barometer was clear and the birth of the Third Pole seems one step away. The goal is to complete all the political and organizational tasks by Friday 12 August or, at the latest, by Sunday 14 and then leave, belly down, for a very difficult and demanding electoral campaign. Calenda repeated that he would like to run for the Senate in central Rome while Renzi is thinking of running for Florence but also in other cities in Tuscany.
The meeting, scheduled for today, between the two leaders who will be responsible for solving the last knots and giving the blessing, if no problems arise, to the final agreement that even the secretary of the Democratic Party, Enrico Letta, considered yesterday one step away now.
