Football and TV rights: Serie A flop

The Lega Calcio auction for the assignment of TV rights for the Serie A matches of the 2018-9 season fails ingloriously after Sky and Mediaset sent it deserted but none of the TV offers came close to the minimum price (650 million ) demanded by football clubs.

Italian football is overrated and it's about time the League, long led by those "geniuses" of Galliani (ex Milan) and Lotito (Lazio), made an open self-criticism. Now there will be a new tender but neither Sky nor Mediaset have any intention of passing out and, sooner or later, the football clubs, divided between large and small in the distribution of proceeds, will have to rethink it. Meanwhile, the advisor Infront ends up in the dock, accused of having managed the tender very badly and of having annoyed both the TVs and the institutions.

It is significant that Sky has offered a total of 230 million euros for Serie A matches. less than half of the auction base.
