Cacciari: "Perfect suicide of the Democratic Party in Venice"

The former mayor of the lagoon city saves Renzi by pointing his finger at Casson's candidacy: “He is an honest person but one who did not have the intrinsic ability to intercept votes. The primaries turned out to be obscene”.

Cacciari: "Perfect suicide of the Democratic Party in Venice"

“It was the perfect suicide”. The analysis, merciless but truthful, comes from someone who knows Venice well: the former mayor Massimo Cacciari thus commented on the defeat of the Democratic Party in the local elections which, after more than twenty years, handed over the lagoon city to the center-right led from Louis Brugnaro. The mistake, according to the philosopher, was above all in the choice to nominate Felice Casson: "I preached in vain for a year that what was taking shape was a risky candidacy".

Massimo Cacciari therefore save Matteo Renzi and point the finger at the choice of Casson, the result of the primaries. “Nothing to say about his figure – he underlines -, he is one honest person but who did not have the intrinsic ability to intercept votes. And the Mose scandal has nothing to do with the result because if the electorate had had to look at that, we would have taken 1% to be generous”. Cacciari has no doubts: “The candidate was wrong, I tried to tell Felice and then all the others, but there was no way. While I was saying that it was necessary to change, renew and field young forces, we went to the primary ones which proved to be obscene".

“It's not a defeat for Renzi – Cacciari was keen to clarify -. The prime minister had said it over and over again that he was scarcely interested in this electoral competition. The problem is that the Democratic Party demonstrates once again that where Renzi is not there, he does not actually exist. Venice is not the Veneto Region where the victory of Luca Zaia it was absolutely written. Here there was a suicide committed by all the components of the Democratic Party”.
