Almost 200 buyers from 41 countries from all over the world brought to life on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 April at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence for BuyWine Toscana, the international BtoB showcase of Made in Tuscany wine. This year they will be There are 241 wineries present, representing 50 denominations, among which IGT Toscana, Chianti Classico and Maremma Toscana dominate. Florence and Siena are the most present provinces, with 77 and 75 producers respectively, followed by Grosseto (40), Arezzo (23), Livorno (9), Pisa (7), Prato and Lucca at four, Massa and Pistoia with one winery each.
The top delegations in terms of number of participants remain firmly those of the United States, Canada and Scandinavia. The presence of Operators from Asia (Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and India) is expected to be important. For the first time after the pandemic, China is also back. At the same time, interest from South America is growing, also thanks to the change in some national legislation which has simplified imports, for example in Brazil and Argentina, while the presence of buyers from Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Chile is confirmed.
The success of the event format is mainly contained in the careful selection of buyers, carried out on the basis of a previous profiling of the participating seller companies.
Today buyers are increasingly looking for wines capable of responding to emerging trends, such as the predilection for organic production, coming from sustainable companies, a requirement considered of great value by the new generations, while among more mature people, with high capacity of spending and good knowledge of wine, the search for high-end and exclusive products, which are not easy to find on the reference markets, is affirmed.
Once the tasting marathon in Fortezza da Basso has concluded - over 3700 tastings scheduled - some buyers will have the opportunity to participate in specific Wine Tours to the origins of winemaking. Between sea and mountains those organized by the Chamber of Commerce of North West Tuscany: “Heroic viticulture. Wine and the mountains” and “The wine coast. Vermentino". The Chianti Classico and Chianti Rufina consortia will instead offer masterclasses and experiences in their territory, while the Suvereto and Val di Cornia wine consortium will lead international operators on a tour to discover a very suggestive territory.
