Bulgaria deadlocked after elections

With the ballot almost completed, a victory for the center-right party is looming but the margin of only 3 percentage points leaves little chance for the formation of a government

Bulgaria deadlocked after elections

The parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, held yesterday, do not seem to have given a clear verdict capable of ensuring a stable majority for the country. In fact, with the poll just over 70%, a victory by narrow margins is looming for the centre-right GERB party of former prime minister Borisov. In fact, the Citizens' Party for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) collected about 31% of the votes against 29% of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), thus resulting in the relative majority party and will have the task of proposing a new government .
This task, however, proves prohibitive as there seems to be no willingness on the part of the other parties present in parliament to reach a government agreement with the GERB.
The outcome of the elections reflects the climate of tension in which the country finds itself at the moment, in fact, the protests that have already erupted in reverse due to the difficult economic situation and the accusations of corruption leveled against the previous government have been joined by yellow linked the seizure of about 350.000 fake ballot papers a few days before the elections and the protests of the population.
The economic situation of the country, 6 years after joining the European Union, appears very critical with decidedly weak economic growth, unemployment estimated at 12% and as much as 22% of the population below the poverty line
