Btp, Cannata: the Treasury evaluates the 7-year issue

The Ministry of Economy evaluates the possibility of launching a seven-year BTP. This was stated by Maria Cannata, head of the Treasury for public debt management.

“There is a growing appetite for a seven-year maturity – he explained speaking at a conference -. We have partially satisfied him with off the run operations. We are now monitoring the market to relaunch this deadline".

Cannata then underlined that 2014, in addition to being "an opportunity for the new benchmark" in seven years, will be characterized by overall funding in line with 2013 and by a recall of buy-backs and exchanges such as to lighten the heavy maturities of government bonds scheduled for 2015.

Of course, “continuous political uncertainty does not help – concluded Cannata -, stability would help better results in terms of performance. And there would be more appetite”.
