Bridgestone closes the Bari plant

Bridgestone Europe leaves Bari. The Belgian company announced today the decision to undertake the procedures for the closure of the Modugno tire plant, in the province of Bari, which it has about 950 employees. The decision, as specified in the note released by the company, will not have repercussions on the other structures of the group in Italy, which are located in Rome and in the province of Monza.

The closure of the Apulian plant can also be explained by the decline in the car tire segment, sdropped from 300 million units in 2011 to 261 million at the end of 2012 (-13%), with the recovery of pre-crisis volumes taking an increasingly long way, especially as regards tires for general use.

"The company - reads the note from Bridgestone - is immediately available to start discussions to identify the best solution capable of minimizing as much as possible the social impact of the decision on the approximately 950 employees involved, in line with the Group's culture ”.
