Brexit, UK ready to pay 40 billion

Britain would be willing to pay the EU up to 40 billion euros to settle the Brexit bill, provided that Brussels agrees to negotiate the economic deal in the context of an agreement on future relations which also includes a trade deal .

This was revealed by the Sunday Telegraph quoting officials from Whitehall, the British Foreign Ministry. The Sunday Telegraph, quoting three anonymous sources close to the negotiations on the divorce from the European Union, recalls that Brussels has suggested a figure of around 60 billion euros as the 'price' for Brexit.

London, so far, has never provided an estimate of the amount it would be willing to pay and there is no official confirmation according to the Sunday Telegraph. According to reports from the newspaper, British officials would have in any case reported a possible offer of around 30 billion euros over three years, on the condition, however, that the agreement is accompanied by a commercial agreement. A figure which, however, could reach up to 40 billion in the course of a negotiation on which however – reports the Sunday Telegraph citing its sources – there is still no unanimous agreement among insiders. "We both acknowledged that there are financial obligations" but "mutual flexibility is needed to arrive at a solution" on the 'bill' to be paid to the EU", said the British Minister for Brexit David Davis a few weeks ago after the second round of negotiations where - he assured - there were "substantial and constructive discussions".
