Brexit, UK: no to visas for European tourists

London has decided that there will be no need for a permit for European citizens who want to go to Great Britain temporarily, but only for those who will go there to study or work.

There will be no visa requirement for EU travelers arriving in the UK after Brexit. It is the line proposed by the British government according to the BBC. Instead, those who want to work, study or move to the country will have to request a permit. London's stance is bound to draw criticism from those who argue that this cannot securely control immigration to Britain.

According to the Times, the new immigration system for EU citizens includes a transition period after the UK officially leaves the EU in March 2019. Initially, those coming to Britain to work will simply have to register at the Home Office without run into restrictions.

Among the major critics of what is emerging as the line of the government in London is the former leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage, according to whom once again we are "bowing" to the will of Brussels. On the other hand, the Conservative deputy, strongly Eurosceptic, Andrew Bridgen, does not think so, according to which it would not make sense to impose a visa on European travellers. “The same restrictions would then apply to the British who visit the continent – he said – do you think it is possible to have a visa system to spend a weekend in Paris?”.
