Brexit, May announces a white paper

May's decision comes in the aftermath of the verdict with which the British Supreme Court reaffirmed the need for a vote by Parliament for the United Kingdom to leave the EU: "The leaders of the opposition have asked for a white paper and I will a white paper, with a clear plan for the future”.

Brexit, May announces a white paper

British Prime Minister Theresa May announced a white paper on Brexit during Question Time in the House of Commons, arguing that Downing Street, as requested by Labor MPs and some Conservatives, is ready to put the strategic lines for Brexit on paper. The proposals will then be presented to Parliament in Westminster, in view of the vote on the bill that activates the famous article 50 on the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union.

May's decision comes the day after the verdict , whereby the British Supreme Court has reaffirmed the need for a vote in Parliament for the launch of article 50, despite the fact that earlier he had repeatedly stressed that such a document – which, in any case, risks delaying the Brexit roadmap – was not necessary.

“The House voted en masse for the government to activate article 50 by March 2017 – said the premier – the opposition leaders have asked for a white paper and I will do a white paper, with a clear plan for Britain's future. This government is focusing on concrete results; on a truly global country and on building a stronger future, for a Great Britain outside the European Union”.

Finally, May also spoke of his next meeting scheduled for next Friday with the new president of the United States, Donald Trump to outline the contours of the future commercial relationship between the two countries.
