Brexit: Toblerone changes shape, fans enraged

Even a myth like the toblerone bows to Brexit. The historic Swiss bar, currently produced by the Americans of Mondelezhas in fact widened the spaces between the triangular bars of chocolate for the British market, in an attempt to avoid raising prices. A move that fans of the bar didn't like at all, who called the attempt "stupid", "ridiculous", "idiotic" and so on.

On the page Facebook of the brand it is explained how the enlargement of the spaces is due to higher costs, generated by the post-Brexit devaluation of the pound, for the ingredients for the British market: to keep the bars at the same price, therefore, it was decided to reduce the weight: from 400 grams to 360 grams and from 170 to 150 grams.

The result, first of all aesthetic, is however rather unpleasant. The space between the triangular bars is now larger than the bars themselves, definitively changing the typical and recognizable appearance of Toblerone. “It's okay to reduce weight – reads the brand's Facebook page -, but why widen the distance between the various segments? It seems to me stupid, they could shorten the bar and keep the original design”. And again: "It looks awful", and "you have the impression of having half the chocolate of before".

The brand's explanation (“Like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for many ingredients”) does not seem to satisfy fans. In any case, this is not the only brand forced to change after Brexit: there are many companies that have been forced to raise their prices due to the collapse of the pound against the euro and the dollar.
