Osborne and Johnson hold back on leaving the EU. Brexit: government says No to second referendum, petition is fake

There is no way out, what is done and done. The British Council of Ministers, meeting today for the first time after the historic consultative referendum which sanctioned the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union, has excluded the possibility of holding a second consultation on Brexit. At the same time, expectation and the will to slow down the exit from the European Union now seems to prevail in London.

In fact, the words spoken on Monday morning by the current one go in this direction British Chancellor of the Exchequer (figure equivalent to the Minister of Finance and Treasury) George Osborne, who in his first post-referendum speech reaffirmed his intention to "act calmly", despite the fact that the main Member States of the European Union have reiterated in recent days the need for a quick exit in order to prevent a possible contagion effect .

Regarding the activation or otherwise of article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which would formally initiate the Brexit process, Osborne does not seem to have the intention of respecting the requests of the now former allies: «Only the United Kingdom can activate article 50 , and in my view we should only do that when there is a clear vision of what new agreements we will seek with our European neighbours. And Prime Minister Cameron has already explained that it will be up to his successor in the autumn ». The United Kingdom therefore aims to buy time. At this point it will be necessary to see if Brussels will be willing to grant it.

Same music, listening to the words of theformer Mayor of London Boris Johnson, champion of the "leave", who declared to the Daily Mail: "There is no great hurry to leave the European Union". “There won't be a financial emergency – she continued – people's pensions are safe, the markets are stable. That's good news."

The government's no to the second referendum, on the other hand, was anticipated by the Channel 4 television channel, arrived this morning and will be officially announced by David Cameron during the speech to the Municipalities scheduled for the afternoon.

The no of the British government was necessary due to the petition signed by two million people which called for the annulment of the June 23 vote and the holding of a new referendum on leaving the EU. We recall that, according to British law, Parliament is required to take into consideration the initiatives signed by more than 100 citizens.

In reality, after the uproar caused by the petition over the last few days, today "the historic result" seems to have been considerably reduced. The British media have reconstructed the genesis of the proposal, presented before the vote and with different objectives from those made official after the victory of the "Leave". In the hours and days following the referendum, membership grew exponentially. The problem is that they, according to the latest rumors, have no reliability. The numbers would have been significantly inflated by resorting to a "computer trick": bots spread by the 4chan site. Thanks to some codes published on the famous American site, the success of the petition would have been altered. Today's sensational discovery: many of the digital signatures present in the "document" would be false.

Analyzing the numbers, about 50 subscriptions would even come from Vatican City and many other countries, including North Korea, South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands.

Based on what the newspaper wrote Republic: "The little system, based on the Mooter software, in fact allows you to automatically insert new names, avoiding the systems of suspending IP addresses, up to 100 per second". All this would be confirmed by the fact that the People's Petitions Control Committee has already eliminated 80 signatures. Based on the calculations, therefore, the "real" signatures should be around 300 thousand, a much lower figure than that circulating over the weekend.
