Brexit: Merkel-Hollande-Renzi summit in Berlin

The awaited trilateral summit on Brexit between Germany, France and Italy is taking place today in Berlin. Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Françoise Hollande and Prime Minister Matteo Renzi will be present.

On the eve of the meeting, Merkel and Hollande had a telephone conversation in which they noted total agreement on how to deal with the crisis triggered by the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

The two leaders hope that any uncertainty about how to react to the outcome of last Thursday's referendum on Brexit will be cleared away. The joint communiqué, however, does not specify any details, leaving ample room for today's summit.

Over the weekend it has already taken place in Paris a bilateral agreement between Renzi and Hollande. On Tuesday, however, British Prime Minister David Cameron will take the floor in Brussels in front of European leaders to talk about Brexit.
