The book "CONDOMS AND CURATIVE DISCOURSES OF THE PLAGUE - With the way of purging the houses and the plague-stricken stuff" introduces us to the year that Turin was hit by the plague.

Due to significant documentary gaps, the plague that struck Turin between 1629 and 1630 is an event of which we still have fragmentary, partial and generic news. The edition of this short treatise by Cesare Mocca, Carlo Emanuele I's chamber physician, helps to illuminate at least a decade of the city's history. Besides for reasons of
Mocca's treatise constitutes an important testimony as regards seventeenth-century medical treatises due to the notable discrepancies with respect to the betrayed canon, in particular as regards the description and the etiopathogenesis of the disease and the treatment methods. Furthermore, Mocca's Discorsi are presented as a document of significant historical-linguistic value, both with respect to the practical uses of the vernacular in early seventeenth-century Turin and more generally with respect to the adoption of the vernacular in the medical language of the time.
