Brebemi changes ownership: Intesa sells the controlling stake to Aleatica

The northern highway, the Brebemi which connects Milan to Bergamo and Brescia, changes hands and becomes a bit Spanish and a bit Australian. Intesa Sanpaolo has in fact sold to the Spanish company Aleatica, which has motorway concessions in many countries but which is controlled by the Australian IFM Fund, the majority share, equal to 56%, of the Autostrade Lombarde which in cascade controls the Brebemi.

The deal is worth around 2 billion euros. “The transaction announced today – confirmed Intesa Sanpaolo in a note – and aimed at sale of the investment in Autostrade Lombarde and Brebemi it is part of the Intesa Sanpaolo group's strategy of non-strategic share disposals, pursued in recent years. The investment made by Aleatica, a global company specializing in infrastructure investments and 100% owned by the Australian fund IFM Global Infrastructure Fund recognizes the significant value that Brebemi has been able to create over time”.

Intesa Sanpaolo, after having accompanied and supported the development and growth of this important infrastructure for some time, therefore bids farewell to its stake and is confident that in Aleatica SAU it has found an operator in the sector with proven capabilities that is characterized by sustainable investments over the long term period. The one in the Brebemi is, among other things, the first significant foreign investment in Italy after the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
