Bpm: Ponzellini sentenced to 1 year and 6 months for private corruption

The first criminal section of the Milan court sentenced the former president of Banca Popolare di Milano (now Banco Bpm) Massimo Ponzellini to one year and 6 months, with a suspended sentence of 5 years, for the crime of private corruption. The prosecutor had asked for a 6-year prison sentence.

Ponzellini was accused of criminal association aimed at private corruption and financial infidelity, but was acquitted of the charge of criminal association because the fact did not exist. As regards the other disputed episodes, Ponzellini was acquitted or the statute of limitations of the crimes was declared.
