Bosphorus: here is the new record bridge

The third bridge over the Bosphorus opens today, which will be the widest suspension bridge in the world (59 metres) – The new structure was completed ahead of schedule and built by the Italian group Astaldi in a joint venture with the Turkish company IC Ictas.

The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the third across the Bosphorus Strait, will be inaugurated on August 26 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Achieved a new record: it will be the widest suspension bridge in the world.

The news was announced by the Ministry of Transport of Ankara, which through a press release highlights how the structure, 1,4 kilometers long and 59 meters wide, has been completed and built by the Italian group Astaldi in joint venture with the Turkish company Ic Ictas.

In the IC Ictas-Astaldi consortium "they both played an important role, with good cooperation and a great result that demonstrates confidence in the stability of our country", underlined the minister during an interview with Ansa. 

The bridge will host an eight-lane highway and two railway lines, connecting Anatolia to the Marmara region.

The railway system of the bridge will be integrated with the Marmaray and Istanbul metro lines to connect the two international airports Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen.
