Artists' portfolio: Giuseppe Stampone, The "Intelligent Photocopier"

Its production ranges from interactive multimedia installations to monumental and participatory public art projects. At the same time, his work refers to the "reasons for doing" by focusing on the aesthetic gratification that comes from drawing with a Bic pen. "My path and my artistic experiments - explains the artist in the statement published on his institutional website - have allowed me to move from the two-dimensional character of classical art to the multidimensionality of connective and relational art, in order to provoke an action socio-politics in the art world. To be independent, mentally and physically, without being subject to economic and political influences, it was necessary to arrive at the stratification of Project Solstice (www.solstice.org), with multilayered and interconnected fields in real and virtual life. My art has become global and does not end in a defined project, rather it takes the form of a social network, from which different ways of observation and action develop.one in the surrounding realities”. Stampone's method is based in fact on the chain of relationships, collaborations, connections and participations developed through the rete Solstice founded by him. And iThe concept of Global fits into this context Educations. Its purpose is to act as a catalyst for a new cuculture, a life active to formulate grammatical trajectories that address and question the understanding and discomfort of today's world; to build a world capable of reviving the perception of experience within a new physical, mental and interactive dimension in which the collective abrogates the suffering of the solitary individual and art becomes a collective agent thanks to the nucleus intimo of our experience . “In this cyber in which we live – underlines Stampone –  knowledge becomes connective because everyone can interact, exchanging their experiences with others in topics and areas of common interest". AND “Global Educations” is a project born in the light of these changes. Begins with primer letters drawn in Bic pen (school supplies par excellence), playing on popular themes, tag, symbols and images – often pertaining to historical facts or current events. Concept maps, slogans, interactive installations and tours in various countries of the world follow, such as those organized by the artist for the Biennale of Kochi and Havana (2012).

For Stampone, the artist must go back to placing ethical commitment before aesthetics, political activism in everyday life and the urgent need to build connective structures and platforms that are cognitive, tactile and transfiguring. His approach is nuanced and methodical, inviting the public to reflect on fundamental issues such as immigration, access to water resources or war through projects such as Greetings from .. (2010 – present), Brand of Intelligence (2007 – present), Watercolors not to waste your life (2006 – 2012) and why? (2007 – present). According to him uAn artist needs to gain frontline experience, sharing people's 'social drama' rather than just quoting im linkspersonal to remote experiences. The important - in his opinion - it is to demolish the mysteries of communication by combining the charm of a sign scientistwith the post-production of meanings and signifiers. A sign that interprets files of images and symbols downloaded from the internet, that fluid media archive we can all draw on, which contains "Great History" and the infinite stories of each of us.
Those are the stories that interest Stampone, and it is for this reason that he has expanded “Global Educations” for hands-on learning, involving people of all ages in creating a job. Sometimes he chooses a specific theme, other times he trusts in freedomto people's imagination.
In this sense, the artist defines herself as an "intelligent copier" because she captures people's experiences and copies them onto an alphabetic grid to create assemblies participatory where he and the community use lateral thinking associations to decide together which word should be associated with a specific Image. For example, the image of a gold bar matches the "H" for H2O; the image of Jesus to the "S" of Superman etc.

The global project Educations consists in a desire for a new literacy that is not given and created by the few for the many, but recreated through the active participation of the people involvedthrough a shared alphabet. Stampone will live in one place for a po'(China, USA, etc) and get to know the local people and schools. He is particularly interested in elementary schools because he sees in children the energy of a pristine and unstructured life. He takes notes on their stories, then returns to his studio to work on the letters and maps born of the experience. It uses the ABC format as it seeks to reopen the dictatorial literacy we have been subjected to and rewrite it with experience and the help of others. Stampone asks local adults and children to help him, using them as an encyclopedia to get as much information as possible, interpreting nothing but create a narrative archive. Once the letters are ready, display them as slogans (e.g work Power Free, 2012; Until the victory Always display, 2011; Yes We can, 2012 ..) and le georeference on his emotional maps. Furthermore, with these same letters he creates travel guides that shatter standard impressions of specific places by relating the experiences of the local people involved. The global dictionary Educations contains over 100.000 images listed in alphabetical order, each corresponding to a single participant. An atlas of emotions, with the name and surname of each person who contributed to the restoration of world geography against any kind of visual dictatorship. A dictionary made up of people's experiences, created with a custom alphabet that rewritesive thoughts, places and stories. The workshop – according to Stampone – is an essential and integral part of an overall project dedicated to the training, education and teaching of art and life today, but also to the creation of a constructive path with a transnational imprint and babelian which brings the troubles, joys and sorrows of everyday life into view.

Joseph Stampone (Cluses, France 1974)

The artistic production of Stampone, who lives and works between Rome and Brussels, ranges from multimedia installations to drawings made with the Bic pen, a technique common to many of his projects. At a time of growing public scrutiny, his art is unabashedly a powerful form of political protest. He continually strives to introduce an alternative socio-political agenda through his artwork and community-based interventions. His approach is nuanced and methodical, inviting audiences to ponder fundamental issues such as immigration, water and war, even as they endure the natural disasters and human disasters that seem to abound today. After his studies he founded the Solstizio network (www.solstizio.org) co-financed by the European Union and developed in various countries around the world. Solstizio is a project based on artistic interventions in which the new generations take part and deals with global contemporary themes, such as the environment, social conflicts and sustainable economies. The network is based on the collaboration of artists, art curators, intellectuals, architects, sociologists and universities, museums, associations, foundations, NGOs, public and private institutions. The main actions of Solstice are directed to EU programs based on innovative art projects in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (Arts and Land and Weare The Planet). In Solstizio Stampone created artistic installations in public spaces with the participation of 30.000 citizens from 10 countries around the world. stamp collaborates with several universities such as La Fine Academy of Urbino (Italy), where he teaches "Techniques and Technologies of the Visual Arts", IULM University of Milan, the Federico II University of Naples and the Program McLuhan in Culture and Technology of Toronto. You develop research and experimentation interventions on art and new media with Alberto Abruzzese and Derrick De Kerckhove. In 2013 he was affiliated with the Fellowship to the American Academy of Rome and won the Art Residency to Young Eun Museum of Contemporary Article (YMCA), Gwangju, South Korea.
