Bag of artists: Arcangelo Sassolino, the artist who challenges the limits of matter

Archangel Sassolino was born in Vicenza in 1967, where he lives and works. His sculptures and installations explore mechanical behavior, materials and the physical properties of force. By applying these properties to the natural world and behaviors, the artist examines the friction between industrial progress and environmental concerns. His works are carefully designed and studied, resulting in the construction of a high degree of physicality and forces applied by or on an object, while pushing materials beyond their physical limits. Tension, expectation and awareness of risk, together with the works' powerful aesthetics, play a key role in the viewers' experience.  For over 15 years challenge matter by forcing its physical limits and bringing out the unexpected as shape and sound. His sculpturesdynamic tures – writes Nicola Maggi – they are configured as systems of great psychic and emotional impact; existential metaphors of vital and physical processes linked to the conscience of the spectator who is constantly placed in a psychological condition of tension and direct confrontation with the risks of a work in which real physical forces, tensions, frictions and pressures are set in motion between materials and surfacesici, masses and structures. “By applying to materials what physics defines as natural phenomena, such as pressure, speed and gravity, I feel I can give sculpture a new potential,” explains the artist.

In terms of collecting we can consider it a product for an elite and not a mass product. This is because the phases of design, experimentation and construction of the works impose very long waiting times and today we must bear in mind the numerous ones waiting list to be satisfied. Furthermore, although belonging to the same cycle, each work remains different from the previous one and in a certain sense it is always an unknown factor, a question that requires, from time to time, specific implementation solutions. But this - points out - it is the magic of Arcangelo Sassolino's thought and work itself, and of that condition of uniqueness and non-reproducibility of the work for which the final owner will be able to boast an unconditional exclusive".
