Contrasted closure for Piazza Affari and the other European stock exchanges, pending the inauguration of Donald Trump at the US White House and tomorrow's directorate of the ECB. Tonight the Fed will release the Beige Book, the report on the country's economic situation. A speech by Fed Chair Janet Yellen is scheduled for 21.

Milan ended trading up 0,32%, after having changed direction several times. The euro weakens against the dollar to 1,068 from 1,071 at the close.

The new 15-year BTP of 1 September 2033 for the amount of 6 billion euros launched this morning by the Treasury has collected orders for 21,3 billion. the stock was priced at 18 basis points above the yield of the current March 2032 benchmark which traded in the morning at 91,70, for a yield of 2,32%. The yield on the new bond is therefore in the 2,50 area, the highest level since July 2015 for a 15-year Treasury issue.

Brent oil trades at 54,5 dollars a barrel: -1,7%. According to a report by the IEA (International Energy Agency), in 2017 the production of shale oil in the USA will start to grow significantly again. Eni rose by 0,65%, Saipem +1,3%, Tenaris +2,74%. Saras drops by 4,66% to 1,569 euros: with a flash sale announced yesterday evening, Rosneft sold the entire 12% stake it still owned to institutional investors at a price of 1,53 euros per share.

The US stock market is cautious. After the first few minutes of trading, the Dow Jones dropped 71 points, or 0,36%, to 19.755,7. The S&P 500 lost 4 points, 0,17%, to 2.264. The Nasdaq slips 2,5 points, 0,05%, to 5.536. The two big banks that today announced their quarterly report are moving little:

– Goldman Sachs +0,3%. Revenues came in at $8,1 billion, better than the $7,76 billion indicated by the analyst consensus. The contribution of profits from trading was significant, at 3,60 billion, better than the 3,28 billion expected.

– Citigroup – 0,7%. Fourth-quarter earnings per share were $1,14 versus expectations of $1,12. Trading profits amounted to 3,01 billion against expectations of 2,83 billion.

Financial sector also in contrast in Milan: Unicredit -0,37%. The reverse split of ordinary and savings shares will be effective from 23 January. Among the other banks, Intesa lost 0,25%, Banco Bpm 0,29%, Ubi +0,4%.

Creval stood out +15,87% after announcing the choice of two advisers, Equita and Mediobanca, to help it select possible strategic options among which the integration with Bper +0,37% stands out.

Among the insurance companies, Cattolica Assicurazioni advances +1,28%: Scor, one of the main reinsurance groups in the world, based in France with a 10% share on the Italian market, entered the company's capital with a 2% share.

Generals -0,81%. “It has been a 'quite satisfactory' year for the Generali group, with a performance 'in line with plan', said the CEO, Philippe Donnet on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. 'Taking into account the difficult markets, low interest rates and volatility, 2016 seems to me to be a fairly satisfactory year', added Donnet, specifying that the trend is ""in line with the plan" .

Mediaset rose +0,86% in the final, on the day when the company's top management presented the 2020 strategic plan in London. The company aims to improve the operating profit of the Italian television activities by 468 million. A large part of this increase, around 200 million, will come from Mediaset Premium.

Telecom Italia also falls -0,78%. Industry stocks moved little: Fiat Chrysler +0,56%: Dbrs placed its rating under observation with “developing” implications, which had been assigned a BB (low) rating with a positive trend. In the fashion sector, Moncler +1,91% and Ferragamo +2,61% are in good demand. StM +0,65%, Leonardo +0,93%.
