Borsa, a positive 2015 for Assosim

The year 2015 ends positively for Assosim. “Albeit with different intensity – explained a note from the company -, one continued moderate economic growth of the main advanced economies, also favored by the abundant liquidity provided to the economic system by accommodating monetary policies”.

As regards the European Union in particular, against overall positive trends for the equity markets (for Italy, the FTSE Mib recorded an increase of 12,70%), Assosim reveals how the phases of high volatility also attributable to the difficulties affecting China and other emerging countries.

For Italy, the volumes traded on the Borsa Italiana stock market grew (+11,30%) and the number of contracts concluded (+6,87%). This positive trend in volumes also continued on the ETFPlus (+41,57%) and SeDeX (+36,40%) markets. Conversely, the countervalues traded on the bond market decreased (MOT: 14,58%), which was affected by the level of interest rates, now at historic lows.

Trading on the stock market managed by Borsa Italiana continues to focus on FTSE MIB stocks, albeit to a lesser extent than the previous year (90% in 2015 versus 91% in 2014). In 2008, the percentage of shares traded on the main Borsa Italiana index was 94%. “The progressive reduction of the concentration of trading – notes the Assosim press release – shows that the interest of the operators is now also aimed at the shares of companies with a smaller capitalisation, but with appreciable prospects of profitability and development”.

The participation of foreign intermediaries on the Italian stock market remained unchanged, with a 21% share of total exchanges; the market share of domestic operators specialized in online trading was significant, reaching approximately 40% of the total volumes traded on the stock market.
