Stock market: Telecom flies on merger rumors in Brazil and the United Kingdom

In Piazza Affari, the spotlight is on Telecom Italia which in the late morning recorded increases of just under 5%, establishing itself as one of the brightest stocks on the Italian list, which in the same minutes is traveling in positive territory.

Giving wings to the shares of the telecommunications group is the ferment due to some merger operations in the sector, in South America, where Telecom Italia could be directly involved, and in the United Kingdom. Portugal Telecom's shareholders' meeting, in fact, gave the go-ahead for the sale to Altice of the Portuguese assets of the Brazilian group Oi, opening the door to an operation that appears to be a prelude to the integration in Brazil between Oi and Tim Brasil, a subsidiary of Telecom.

In the United Kingdom, on the other hand, Telefonica confirmed that it has begun negotiations for the sale of the operator O2 to Hutchinson. According to the analysts of Equita Sim, the Hong Kong group could carry out a similar operation “also in Italy, placing itself as an active part of an aggregation process with Wind. Such a deal would produce a very balanced market with a material benefit for all operators".
