The MPS share fell on the Stock Exchange which, on a rather negative day for the banking sector in Piazza Affari, ranked at the end of the Ftse Mib, dropping 1,91% in the late morning, at 0,2156 euros per share.
Weighing on the prices of the Sienese institute is the indiscretion, reported by the Financial Times, according to which the European Antitrust, through a letter sent by Commissioner Joaquin Almunia to Minister Fabrizio Saccomanni, allegedly asked for changes to the restructuring plan of Monte dei Paschi.
The changes would concern the treatment of creditors, top management compensation, cost cutting and profit expectations. If these changes are not implemented, the European Commission, which declined to comment on the leak, would be forced to open an investigation into public aid of 3,9 billion euros to the Sienese institute.
