Borsa: Mps down on mystery buyer, but reaches agreement to extend standstill

Bad day on the stock exchange for Mps, which stands as the worst stock of the day, down by 2,26% to 0,377 euros.

The Bank's actions are shaken by rumors spread by Milano Finanza, which they would see a foreign fund interested in purchasing 5% of the Sienese institute. The identity of the buyer is still unknown but it is not excluded that it could be a sovereign wealth fund.

Mitigating the rude awakening of MPS is theagreement reached yesterday which allows the standstills to be extended until 30 April. This was communicated by the institute itself which adds in the note: "The activities aimed at defining the Foundation's debt rebalancing plan will therefore continue with more time available".

Therefore, more time to repay the 1,1 billion euro of debts to the twelve financial creditors. Time that will be spent finding new buyers, given that the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation, which owns 49% of the institute, has decided that part of the repayment will take place through the sale of 15,5% of their share package. In the last few days, 2,52% has already been sold on the block market, an operation that has allowed Palazzo Sansedoni to collect 113 million euros.
