Borsa, the Bear saves Snam which bets on hydrogen

European price lists fall in the middle of the day but the financial markets appreciate the choice of hydrogen - Here is the story of a transition that is bearing good results, not only for Snam - The moves of Germany and the other competitors.

Borsa, the Bear saves Snam which bets on hydrogen

The financial markets, in a lack of oxygen, think of taking refuge in hydrogen. Without haste, as evidenced by the slowdown by Snam, around -1,7%, which has the flavor of a big success in the light of the collapse that hit all the lists this morning disappointed by the pessimism of the Fed. And with great caution given the tumble at Nikola's Wall Street, the company owned by CNH, today -7,6%, the black jersey of Piazza Affari after Elon Musk, who obviously doesn't like the competition, anticipated the upcoming launch of electric and hydrogen trucks, to throttle the startup of Phoenix which in just three trading days had reached a capitalization of 28 billion dollars (FCA does not reach 20).

In this scenario Snam, led by a self-confessed "prophet" of hydrogen, Marco Alverà, is about to play a leading role, industrial rather than financial, after the company has successfully concluded the launch of the first transition bond (500 million) paving the way for a series of bonds that will serve to support the integration of hydrogen and other low-carbon gases in the march towards a low-carbon economy. The operation falls on ground already plowed by various initiatives:

  • On May 27, the New Yotk Times published a report from Contursi, in the Neapolitan area, where the Orogiallo pasta factory, managed by the Milito family, manages an industrial pasta factory, specializing in orecchiette, powered by a mixture of hydrogen and natural gas produced by Snam's own machinery.
  • On 4 June, Snam signed a five-year agreement with Alstom, the colossus of the transalpine railway industry (which controls the former Fiat of Savigliano). The goal is the realization of hydrogen railway line: Alstom will build the trains, for which it already has the necessary know-how, Snam will take care of the infrastructure for the transport and supply of the raw material.
  • In the meantime, Germany has programmed its economic recovery plan investments for 9 billion euros with the goal of producing 5 gigawatts of clean energy by 2020.
  • At the center of the commitment is the car. Berlin has allocated 3,6 billion euros to finance the launch of hydrogen cars to bridge the gap with Asian manufacturers. A large part of the capital will be used to develop H mobility, the company in which Shell, Total and Daimler participate, among others, which aims to build at least one hundred service stations within a year.
