Leonardo runs on the stock exchange driven by two important news that arrived today, 3 September. Let's start from the first. The company led by Alessandro Profumo was awarded together with Bae Systems a contract for the development of the radar electronically scanned European Common Radar System Mark 2 of RAF Typhoon. The operation is valid overall 317 million pounds and, Leonardo says, will guarantee over 600 jobs between Edinburgh (300), Luton (100) and Lancashire (120).

Going into details, the contract concerns the European Common Radar System Mark 2 electronically scanned radar, to a standard ready to be integrated on RAF Typhoons. It is a radar equipped with a multi-functional antenna which “will give UK Typhoons a superior electronic attack capability, in addition to traditional radar functions, including broadband electronic attack capabilities. This will allow RAF pilots to locate, identify and neutralize enemy air defenses using powerful jamming,” Leonardo explains in a statement.

Mark HamiltonLeonardo's senior vice president of Electronic Warfare commented: “This contract is great news for the UK, which will have the world's most powerful radar for a fighter jet, and great news for British engineers as well. Designing, developing and building advanced technology in the UK will allow us to understand and respond to the specifics of our Armed Forces and to secure export orders anywhere in the world, strengthening the entire country's economy".
