Stock market, Finmeccanica collapses due to rumors about Ansaldo Energia

The offers for the purchase of Ansaldo Energia are slow in arriving: the deadline, initially set today, could be postponed to February – The company however wants to close before the elections, to avoid running into the decisions of the new government.

Stock market, Finmeccanica collapses due to rumors about Ansaldo Energia

A day to forget in Piazza Affari for the Finmeccanica title, which at the beginning of the afternoon left more than three points on the field, the second worst drop on the Ftse Mib after that of Mps. In these hours the board meeting is scheduled in which the discussion on the matter should be discussed sale of 100% of Ansaldo Energia, even if by now it seems unlikely that the binding offers for the subsidiary will be presented by today, as foreseen by the deadline initially established by the company. This distrust triggered the sell-off.

"Apart from the legitimacy of these speculations, the succession of conflicting news contributes to creating a background noise that brings uncertainty and volatility to the stock, pushing it downwards after recent gains," comments an analyst.

The deadline could therefore be postponed, according to what Corriere writes today, until mid-February, also to allow Samsung to come forward with greater knowledge of the facts after completing the due diligence. In pole position on the Ansaldo Energia dossier there would also be the Koreans of Doosan, the Italian consortium, who do not exclude the possibility of forming an alliance.

"In general, it would seem that Finmeccanica is aiming to sell the asset before the general elections on 24 February, as the new government could decide to block the sale process", notes Banca Akros.
