Stock exchange: FCA recovers. Banks in recovery, Mediaset thud

In the middle of the day, European stock markets are in the red and the pound strengthens against the euro. Lufthansa and Lindt up sharply in Frankfurt and Zurich. In Milan Fiat Chrysler restarts thanks to the positive data on registrations while Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW continue to weigh on the Dax. Luxury settles down after the exploits of Luxottica

European lists in red. Even the German Zew index, which measures business optimism, was less brilliant than expected.

A Milano the Ftse Mib index marks a modest drop (-0,10%), below 19.300 points. In red the other markets: Paris e Frankfurt -0,6% Madrid -0,3%. In the German Stock Exchange, the rise of Lufthansa (+6%). Featured prominently in Zurich Lindt (+ 5%). London it is down by 0,4%. The pound recovered from its lows, rising against the euro to 0,879 from 0,885.

Of note is the rebound of Fiat Chrysler (+1,5%) after registrations in Europe in December: the group sold 72.280 cars, with a growth of 13,4% against a market increase of 3,2%. 

The rest of the auto sector is also suffering today after US President-elect Donald Trump promised hefty new taxes on imported cars on the US market. Peugeot loses 1,8%, worst title of the CAC, while the German Volkswagen (-2,1%), Daimler (-1,5%) And bmw (-1,6%) continue to weigh on the Dax.

According to La Repubblica, fromAgcom is about to stop Vivendi on Mediaset (-3,7%). Any takeover bid by the French would be void because the company that owns Telecom Italia, currently -1,5%, by law cannot also own Mediaset. These would be the preliminary conclusions of the investigation launched by the Communications Regulatory Authority. But Agcom specified that "all the formalities necessary to investigate the many technical, legal and market aspects that the analysis requires are in full swing", explains a note from the authority, recalling that the investigation will be completed within one hundred and twenty days extendable by a further sixty.

Generali lose about one point. The board of Poste Italiane (+0,1%) has allocated 54 million euros to protect customers who in 2003 had purchased shares in the Irs real estate fund and who have since seen a loss of around 74% of their value.

In luxury it settles down Luxottica: -0,2% after yesterday's +8%. Moncler -1,4% Yoox -1,6%. The German Zalando loses more than 6% after an increase in sales below expectations.
