Protagonist of the financial day is undoubtedly Microsoft. The software giant has announced that the CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, will retire within 12 months. Soon after the news broke, stock on Wall Street soared 7,72% to $34,55. At 17:30, immediately after the closure of Piazza Affari, the rise had eased somewhat and was around 5,4%.

in European stock exchangesHowever, nothing particularly shocking happens. The EU lists closed flat and barely moved by a day without significant macroeconomic data. The only data that has been disclosed is that on consumer confidence in the EU which grew in August by almost two percentage points (to -15,6 points from -17,4 in July). The list that does best is London (+0,68%), thanks to mineral stocks; then Madrid (+0,64%), then Paris (+0,29%) and finally Frankfurt (+0,23%).

At Piazza Affari the Ftse Mib closed at +0,19% thanks above all to the good performance of Eni which closed with a gain of 2,3%. Well too Fonsai (+1,3%) after news broke that the company is preparing to exit from Mediobanca by selling its 3,8% stake on the market. News which, on the other hand, brought Piazzetta Cuccia down, which closed the day by losing 2,8%.

The worst stocks of the day, after Mediobanca, are: Fiat (-2,3%), Diasorin (-2,2%), Ubi Banca (-2%) and Banca Popolare di Milano (-1,4%).

On the other hand, the performance of Enel (+0,92%), Fiat Industrial (+0,84%) and Alsaldo Sts (+0,78).

On the foreign exchange market, the euro trades at 1,3394 dollars (1,3359 yesterday) and 132,038 yen (131,6). The dollar-yen ratio stands at 98,56 (98,5315).

The spread remains at 239 basis points.
