The institute expects to reach the target of a Core Tier 1 of 9% by June, as requested by the EBA, without having to resort to the conversion of the one billion soft mandatory bond.

Banco Popolare in the spotlight at Piazza Affari following the release of the 2011 results and above all thanks to the good prospects in terms of capital. The institute's shares jumped by more than four and a half points in mid-morning, in contrast with the Ftse Mib, which turned into negative territory by about half a point. The basket of European banking stocks, on the other hand, is substantially stable.

I volumes trading on Banco Popolare shares is intense, amounting to around 17 million shares traded after a few hours, against the 24,7 million traded on average in an entire session. In the last three months the stock has gained more than 50%. 

The institute counts on achieve the target of a Core Tier 1 of 9% by June, as requested by the EBA, without having to resort to the conversion of the one billion soft mandatory bond, which would have had heavy dilutive effects for its shareholders.
