Borsa 2019, Milan towards the record in Europe: +26%

2019 is starting to be the year of redemption for Piazza Affari with the Ftse Mib which since January 2019 has achieved the best performance among the main European lists, going from 18.330 to 23.182 basis points driven by the stellar performances of Azimut, Stm and Amplifon. In percentage terms, after the -16% recorded in 2018, in the current year the increase is 26,2% against the +20,6% achieved by the Euro Stoxx 600, the stock index made up of 600 of the main European market capitalisations.

On the continental podium too Frankfurt (+ 24,6%) and Zurich (+24,2%). Wooden medal for Paris which has to "settle" for fourth place in Europe, with a gain of 23,9%. Positive year also for Madrid e London, which, however, due to internal political vicissitudes, recorded more limited increases compared to other continental markets. In Spain, attempts are still underway to form a new government after four general elections in four years, in the United Kingdom the Brexit psychodrama continues and on 12 December citizens will be called to vote to elect the party that will finally have to unlock a impasse three and a half years long. From a stock market point of view, all this translates into an increase of +9,95% for the Ibex 35 and +7,49% for the Ftse 100.

At world level, the Ftse Mib is instead in third place, preceded by Bovespa (+26,4%) and from Nasdaq which stands out over all the other price lists with an increase of more than 30% (+30,4% to be exact), despite the war on tariffs between the USA and China raising more than one doubt about the future of world economies.

Returning to Milan, the undisputed queen of the Ftse Mib is once again Azimut which in 2019 achieved a three-digit increase: +132,2% from 9,536 to 22,94 euros. Pietro Giuliani's company closed the first 9 months of the current year with a net profit of 246,55 million euros, achieving the best result in its history. In the same period of 2018, profits amounted to 111,86 million.

Guinness record performance also for Stmicroelectronics, which since the beginning of the year has gained more than 90%, and for Amplifon which will celebrate its first year on the Ftse Mib on 27 December. The company led by Enrico Vita already has something to rejoice in: since its entry on the main list, the share has risen by 85,3%, going from 14,04 to 26,04 euros. Also on the rise Diasorin (+ 74,1%) and Ferrari (+ 73,2%).

Moving from green to red, January 2 to today on the Ftse Mib there is only one negative title: it is Pirelli which marks -8,3% to 5,158 euros.

Small final curiosity: although the +132% of Azimut is the best result of the Ftse Mib, on the other segments there are those who managed to do better. Any examples? Innovatec, a company active in the energy efficiency sector listed on AIM Italia, gained more than 500% of its value, while Restart, real estate company, goes up 200%.
