Mediaset's boom and bank crash but Piazza Affari is holding up

Contrasted trading day on the European stock markets: only Milan and Madrid are saved, which senses the exit from the Catalan crisis – Extraordinary rise by Mediaset (+8,34%) on the wings of a possible agreement with Vivendi – Ok also Enel, Ferrari and A2a – Banks, especially the former Popolari, are making heavy losses due to fears of the tightening on NPLs.

Start of the week slightly up for the Milan Stock Exchange. The Ftse Mib index of Piazza Affari rises by 0,38%. Ftse Mib at 22.477 points. In Europe, the recovery of the Spanish stock market continues, with the Ibex index up by 0,8%. Also following the great popular demonstrations in favor of territorial unity with Spain, the possibility of a worsening of the Catalan crisis has been reduced. 

The stock exchanges of Paris +0,11% and Frankfurt +0,09% moved little. London loses 0,2%, while the pound rebounds against the euro to 0,891. Last week the British currency lost 1,7% against the euro. On Wall Street, the S&P500 index rose by 0,1%. Same positive variation for the Nasdaq and for the Dow Jones. In New York, the bond market remains closed today, with possible repercussions, in terms of volumes, on the stock market. The Turkish Stock Exchange falls: -6%. Over the weekend, in response to the arrest of a Turkish official at the US consulate in Istanbul by Turkish police, the US government froze entry visas to the country. Brent oil trades at $55,7, flat. Eni on exact parity.

In Piazza Affari the leap of Mediaset (almost +9%) held the ground on the wave of rumors about a possible agreement with Vivendi. The agreement could be based on the descent of the French in the capital of the Biscione at least under 10% and the possible extension of the Canal Plus - TIM jv to Mediaset after the legal battle over Vivendi's failure to purchase Mediaset Premium. Failed in the final Telecom Italia -0,5%.

Weak banks. The controversy over non-performing loans continues: Banco Bpm -2,75%, Bper Banca -3,1% among the worst. Unicredit -0,17%. Conversely, the drop in interest rates favored the recovery of utilities: Enel +1,83%, Italgas +2,06%, A2A +1,34%, Snam +1,12%. 
 
Fiat Chrysler +1,54%. Sergio Marchionne said today that he is not sure that the consolidation with the Chinese Great Wall Motor is an effective solution, rejecting the interest expressed by the Chinese company for the Turin-based group. Speaking in New York for Ferrari's 70th birthday, Marchionne said there were "sensitive issues associated with transnational mergers" and he did not believe these issues had been weighed between the two automakers. Speaking of Ferrari +3,46% Marchionne said that for Formula 1 'The season is not lost, but it's still all to play for. 

Atlantia advances +0,6%. The Spanish Consob has authorized the voluntary takeover bid and/or exchange on all the shares issued by Abertis Infraestructuras at CNMV.
