Electricity bills: Greeks have to pay 2 billion in arrears

About one and a half billion is owed by households, while large companies owe 280 million and the state another 220.

In Greece, the bill presented by the Troika is not the only one with nine figures. The crisis and subsequent austerity have created such difficulties for the Greek country that the overdue electricity bills alone amount to a good two billion euros.

This is the amount due to the Public Power Corporation, a public company and the country's leading electricity supplier. The news was reported by Giorgos Adamidis, secretary of the Genop union, whose statements were reported by the news agency News Agency.

In detail, of the total two billion, approximately one and a half billion is owed by households, while large companies owe 280 million and the State another 220.

Households that switched providers owe another 300 million in overdue bills and, according to Adamidis, PPC has asked the Industry Regulatory Authority (RAE) to ban customers from switching providers if they haven't paid their outstanding bills first.
