Electricity bills on the rise in the third quarter of 2017, while gas bills will be cheaper.

Starting July 1st, the electricity bill for the typical family will be higher by +2,8%, while for gas the decrease will be -2,9%.

The changes were communicated by the Authority for electricity, gas and the water system by updating the reference economic conditions for families and small consumers under protection for the third quarter of 2017.

The changes are caused by the expected increase in the price of energy in the wholesale market in consideration of the peaks in demand linked, as far as electricity is concerned, to the heat and to the increase in consumption due to air conditioners and lower hydroelectric production. Conversely, however, with regard to the gas bill, for which families will be able to take advantage of the season of low consumption and the reduction in prices on the wholesale market.

Based on the calculations provided by the Authority, for electricity the expenditure (before taxes) of a typical family in the rolling year, i.e. between 1 October 2016 and 30 September 2017, will be 512,52 euro, with a change of +1,8% compared to the same period of the previous year (October 1, 2015 - September 30, 2016). Speaking in figures, each family will spend 9 euros more. But you can console yourself with the gas bill. In the same period of reference, the expenditure of the typical household in this sector will be approximately 1.029 euros, with a variation of -3,6% compared to the previous 12 months. In figures, this time it is a saving of around 40 euros/year.
