Electricity bill, Terna: "The cost has doubled"

Il annual cost of the electricity bill “it increased by about 40 billion euros projected on the values of the current quarter. In practice there is a doubling of the projected cost of energy". She said it Francis Del Pizzo, Director of Grid Development and Dispatching Strategies of Terna, during a hearing before the Productive Activities Commission of the Chamber.

“This leads us to a reflection on the impacts of this increase – he added – Surely, one factor is the reduction of the country's competitiveness, given that energy is a fundamental element for industry and that the price differential with foreign countries has widened. The second factor is that these 40 billion euros are an important factor in inflation“, moreover linked “to the cost of gas, which translates into an imbalance on the trade balance”.

As for electricity, “the price of the raw material went from 50 euros to over 200 euros MWH. It is a phenomenon recorded throughout Europe but in Italy it is higher than the others – continued Del Pizzo – The price range has widened since Italy is a country in which the cost is defined by the price of gas while in other countries it can be determined by nuclear power or renewables”.

Looking at the electricity cost forecasts for next year, "at the moment prices are particularly high, around 150% more than in the past - Terna's manager explained - Our forwards are over 115 euros /Mwh right now”.

Finally, on the slope renewable, there are investments in plants for about 175 thousand megawatts fermi for the authorization procedures: “We have over 150 MW of connection requests plus 25 MW for offshore wind farms. We are talking about 175 MW out of a 2030 target of 65 MW. So there is great attention to renewables, there is liquidity and a willingness to invest on the market. What stops the installations is the authorization process and the process of identifying the suitable areas which we hope will reach completion”, concluded Del Pizzo.
