Boeing closes the production line in Foggia

A company relocates abroad but then decides to return home. News that is usually welcomed if the foreign country, in this case, weren't us. The next version of the Boeing 787 tail stabilizers will no longer be produced in Italy. This was reported by the site of the US newspaper Seattle Times. For the Alenia plant in Foggia - if the news were confirmed - it would be a mortal blow, because the tail stabilizers of the Dreamliner 787/8 series are born in the Borgo Incoronata plant and are then assembled at the Boeing center in Seattle, after a long plane from Grottaglie airport.

The source citing the American newspaper is quite authoritative. It is the commercial manager of the American giant, Jim Albaugh, who spoke about it during a meeting with analysts on Wall Street, alongside him the commander in chief of Boeing, Jim McNerney, chairman of the board of directors. The two managers spoke of their Italian experience linked to the production of important parts of the new aircraft, already delayed by at least two years (the production units of the fuselage and tail stabilizers are located in Puglia).
The occasion for this announcement was provided by the annual Boeing investor conference held last week at the Fairmont Olympic hotel in Seattle.

According to McKerney, the decision is due to the increased cost of overseeing overseas production. The next version of the Dreamliner will be 70% assembled in the United States, up from 50% today.
