Gianmario Verona from November XNUMXst will be the Rector of the Bocconi University. Verona takes over from Andrea Sironi, who led the university for four years. The appointment of the new Rector, approved today unanimously by the University's Board of Directors, was proposed by President Mario Monti also following extensive consultations conducted with university professors, starting with the members of the Academic Council. The mandate lasts for two years.
Professor of Economics and Business Management at Bocconi University, Gianmario Verona, 46 years old, holds the TIM Chair in Market Innovation. Current pro-rector for human resources, at Bocconi he directed the Full Time MBA and the Phd in Business Administration. Verona, who has taught and researched at Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Sloan School of Management, is co-editor of the scientific journal Strategic Organization. His research activity is focused on understanding the dynamics of innovation and the impacts of technology on corporate and business strategies.
"To Andrea Sironi thanks go from the board of directors and from the entire Bocconi community for the commitment and results achieved during the four years of his rectorship”, declared Monti. “Internationalisation, social mobility, innovation and quality of teaching were the areas on which he concentrated his work in particular, bringing the University to the top of the most important international rankings. With the new academic year, the baton passes to Gianmario Verona, whom I thank for the commitment and dedication shown as pro-rector and director of programmes, and to whom I wish good luck”.
According to the mandate assigned to him by the Board of Directors, the new rector, in line with the strategic plan of Bocconi University 2020will focus on continuously strengthening the university's international profile in terms of student and faculty recruitment on the international market, research visibility and productivity, and positioning of Bocconi departments at the European level. “First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Chairman Monti and to the members of the Board of Directors for the trust they have expressed in me,” declared Verona. “Succeeding Andrea Sironi, of whom I am pro-rector, is an honor and an incentive for me to pursue the objectives of the Bocconi 2020 plan with equal commitment and dedication, knowing that I will be able to count on the full collaboration of the teaching staff, administrative staff, students and of alumni".
