Bnp towards 5 billion fine in the US

Another big American fine for a European banking giant. After the historian agreement signed yesterday by Credit Suisse, which has agreed to pay 2,6 billion for helping its clients evade tax in the US, today BNP Paribas is in the eye of the storm.

According to Bloomberg, the French institute is being targeted by the federal authorities for its financial activity with some countries – including Sudan and Iran – which appear on the American black list of states with which relations should not be maintained. As in the case of Credit Suisse, the US wants a public admission of guilt from the BNP.

As for the extent of the fine, the Bank risks having to disburse a good 5 billion dollars, but Bloomberg reports that other sources, in recent days, had spoken of a 3,5 billion dollar fine, which therefore would now have increased. However, the institute admitted that the 1,1 billion set aside up to now will not be enough. The announcement of the deal could come next month.

By mid-morning, Bnp Paribas stock lost about one and a half points on the Paris Stock Exchange.
