Bmw, Daimler and Vw: human guinea pigs for exhaust gas tests

After the scandal dieselgatand another huge cloud threatens the German auto giants. The problem always concerns diesel engine emissions, but this time the accusation is even heavier.

According to rumors from the German media, starting from revelations in the New York Times, Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW have carried out exhaust gas tests using monkeys and humans as guinea pigs.

"Used volunteers for breathing tests" they write Sueddeutsche Zeitung and Stuttgarter Zeitung. According to what was reported by the German media, the European Research Society for the Environment and Health in Transport, founded by the three car giants, would have promoted "a brief study of inhalation with nitric oxide on healthy people". In detail "Twenty-five people were subjected to checks at the university hospital in Aachen after they had breathed nitric oxide for several hours and in different concentrations".

In the meantime, the first denials of the big names in the car industry have already arrived: Daimler clarifies that: “We had no influence on the experiments. We expressly distance ourselves from the research of the Eugt. We are shocked by the type of examinations conducted. And we strongly condemn these tests.”

Volkswagen Hans Dieter Poetsch, president of the Supervisory Board of the German group intervenes: the gas tests on monkeys, he declared, “are in no way acceptable. I strongly distance myself from such practices and will do everything possible to ensure that there is a full investigation into the procedures. And whoever is responsible will answer for it."

Angela Merkel, through his spokesman Steffen Seibert, he condemns the car industry's experiments on exhaust fumes: “These tests on animals and even on people find no ethical justification. The indignation of so many people is absolutely understandable”.
