Bloomberg, Doctoroff leaves: CEO Michael, the 72-year-old founder (and former mayor of NY) returns

Michael Bloomberg, 72, former mayor of New York, will return to lead his creation, the international news agency Bloomberg, following the resignation of the current CEO Daniel L. Doctoroff. This was announced by Bloomberg itself. Doctoroff "will leave his position as president and CEO of the company at the end of this year" reads a note, which specifies that the global news service "will not appoint a replacement, but will be led by Michael Bloomberg with the support of the current team ”.

Michael Bloomberg said: “I really wanted Dan to stay put, but I understand his decision. I didn't intend to return to lead Bloomberg after 12 years as mayor. However, the more time I spent reacquainting myself with the company the more attractive and interesting I found it. And that's thanks in large part to Dan's work. My strong involvement in the company prompted Dan to tell me recently that he thought it best for me to get back on the road.”

In a statement Doctoroff told his team that “I have always seen myself as a representative of Mike at Bloomberg, which has always been his company. In the face of this renewed interest of his, it is natural that he returns to lead it ”. Doctoroff will become a consultant managing the group's financial data services.
