Blocking of layoffs: skip the extension to August 28th

After the controversies of the last few days, Palazzo Chigi finds the square – The deadline of 28 August has been skipped, but not for everyone – The unions are not there – Landini: "Thousands of people will lose their jobs"

Blocking of layoffs: skip the extension to August 28th

The freeze on layoffs remains until June 30th. Skip the extension to August 28 previously established for companies that had requested the Covid cig from the entry into force of the Sostegni bis decree by the end of next month.

After the controversies of the last few days, Palazzo Chigi has found a compromise between the demands of the unions and the protests of Confindustria. According to what was established on May 24, the freeze on layoffs remains until June 30 for large companies and October 31 for small ones. The interim deadline of August 28 is revoked. In any case, companies will be able to use the ordinary layoffs, from 2021 July, without being forced to pay the surcharges until the end of 2021 and with the commitment not to lay off for the entire period in which they use it. And therefore potentially until the end of 1. If, on the other hand, they do not use the facilitated Cig, they will be able to fire from XNUMX July.

Representatives of the Democratic Party point out that the work package approved in the Sostegni bis decree "confirms the approach given by Minister Orlando with a series of options available to companies, alternatives to layoffs”, but the unions are not there. According to the number one of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini "there is the risk that from XNUMX July there will be thousands of people without work" and this is because the government has "listened a little too much to Confindustria. The government – he added – has chosen to take a decision that does not convince us: we intend to continue to bring home greater protection for working people”.

“We haven't seen the lyrics yet. There are aid to companies, but the company can decide whether to fire or not - he remarked - But if you have public aid and you have no additional costs, the use (of this aid, ed) must have the constraint of not firing", underlines Landini again, according to which “the decree will then have to be discussed in Parliament. Since the Prime Minister himself says that the discussion with the social partners is still open, well, we we don't want to be faced with thousands of layoffs because this is not the time to open further social fractures in the country".

“Minister Orlando's proposal in the Council of Ministers was clear: to allow companies an orderly exit from the blockade of layoffs, protecting both workers and businesses in this still delicate phase for the economy of our country. Both are fragile subjects in this phase, they must not be placed in opposition either on a political or social level. The proposal of Minister Orlando, who clearly explained the reasons for his choices during the Council of Ministers, is clear and acceptable ”, writes the head of the M5S delegation Stefano Patuanelli on Facebook.
