Bio-on goes into fashion: Fashion Development Material is born

Bio-on lands in the world of luxury and fashion. The company listed on the Aim of Borsa Italiana and active in high quality bioplastic sector presented the new Fashion Development Material unit specialized in the development of new high-tech materials for the fashion and luxury industry, based on the 100% natural and biodegradable Minerv PHAs bioplastic.

A new challenge whose aim is to identify processes, technologies and patents to produce fabrics, yarns, flexible surfaces, films, etc. made of bioplastic and intended to replace today's materials, many of which are synthetic and polluting.

Fashion Development Material (FDM) joins the 5 business units that Bio On created a year ago: Bio On Plants; Cosmetics, Nanomedicines & Smart Materials (CNS); Recovery and Fermentation (RAF); Engineering (ENG) and Structural Materials Development (SMD).

"The search for innovative and eco-sustainable materials, which respect the environment and people, is now a priority also in the luxury and fashion sector - explained Marco Astorri, president and CEO of Bio-on - and today the creativity of the best designer also expresses himself through the choice of natural and biodegradable materials. We are already collaborating with some of the most important fashion brands in the world and thanks to this experience we are launching today our sixth business unit to respond to the market in a faster, more punctual and personalized way”.

The materials, which will be developed by a dedicated team, also respond to the need to reduce the pollution caused by the synthetic fibers which are used by the fashion industry and which, invisibly, are released with each wash, ending up in the environment and seas. A dramatic phenomenon similar to that caused by plastic microbeads used in cosmetics and which pollute seas and rivers. In both cases, Bio-on has developed innovative solutions starting from PHAs bioplastic, which comes from a completely natural process and is 100% biodegradable.

Investors seem to like Bio-on's news: at 12.16, the stock gained 5,44% to 47,45 euros.
